Parties in text war with ACN

LAGOS  –  Opposition parties in Lagos  State, as part of measures to garner support during the rescheduled election, have resorted to series of campaigns and alleged attacks on Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, via text messages on mobile phones, urging Lagos residents to shun the state’s ruling party.

However, in a swift reaction, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has asked  all right thinking members of the public to ignore the negative text messages about a rift in the ACN.

Series of text messages had been sent to different mobile phones from unnamed sources, asking the electorate to vote for Labour Party.

One of the text messages with the sender’s name as LagosVoters, read  “Vote Labour Party on Saturday to liberate Lagos from the dictator Tinubu, who imposed wife, daughter, son-in law as candidates. Vote Labour.”

Another read, “Just got this from the rumour mill: Fashola says No to Tinubu’s juju oath swearing, let us all pray for Fashola’s protection from the evil Tinubu godfather.”

Reacting to the development, Fashola, who spoke  a meeting of the ACN in the Lagos Central Senatorial district, advised Lagosians to remain vigilant.

According to the Governor, “this is the destabilization, deceit,  corruption that is the trait and character of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, posing as Labour Party,  trying to destabilise all other parties. You just saw our meeting, there is no rift in our party.

“I will ignore it and I will implore every right thinking Lagosian to also do same. All these are text messages of fear, deception. These are there character,” he added.

“I will urge Lagosians to also remain vigilant. This is the destabilisation, deceit and the corruption of the PDP. They are posing as labour and all sorts. They are trying to destabilise all other parties.”

The governor said “PDP have not campaigned on any issue. They have not told Nigerians what they will do on security, housing and electricity. And they want to seek for peoples vote. People must be vigilant and they must wake up and listen to what we are saying in the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.”

On the rescheduled elections, Fashola said “we must continue to support INEC to do the best they can in a very difficult environment that has been created by the mismanagement and inefficiency of the PDP led federal government over 12 years.”
