PORT HARCOURT- INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission, INEC, has been urged to relocate its offices from local government areas round the country.
Chairman, Rivers State wing of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mr Uche Okuku, who made the call at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said the move would help check the excesses of some local government chairmen.
According to him, some chairmen in the botched National Assembly election in Rivers State shut the gates of their councils against agents of opposition parties in the name of securing government property as chief security officers of their councils.
ACN said the relocation of INEC’s offices from council headquarters would help create a level playing field for all political parties at the general polls.
