Calabar -A retired Group Captain of the Nigerian Air Force and House of Representatives candidate for Calabar South/Akpabuyo/Bakassi Federal Constituency on the platform of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Edem Oyo-Ita, has said that it was lack of poor representation at the National Assembly that caused the Bakassi people their ancestral land.

Group Captain Oyo-Ita who stated this in an exclusive interview with the Vanguard in Calabar, Tuesday, expressed worry that despite the abundant human resources in the area, people from other constituencies in the state have taken over the political leadership of the constituency.

He said that if elected to represent the constituency at the National Assembly, he would sponsor a bill to revisit the ceding of Bakassi to the Republic of Cameroon, ensure better living conditions through the provisions of good roads, health facilities and cultural recreation, embark on political sensitization and also support the state government at the National level.

He specifically alleged that the member representing the area in the House of Representatives was not from the constituency adding that because of not having their own, the area especially Bakassi, has suffered heavily as it was evidenced in the ceding of the oil-rich island to the Republic of Cameroon.

The CPC House of Representatives candidate debunked the notion that people from the area were not interested to aspire to elective or active national politics which he said made someone from another constituency who did not know the problems of the people to usurp the position only for his personal gains in the last eight years.
