ABUJA – The Daily Trust correspondent in Nasarawa State, Hir Joseph, yesterday escaped attack by unidentified gun men who broke into his house in search of him.
A petition by the State Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, to the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Obiako, said the police should investigate the incident as members insisted that the it might be connected with plans targeted at muzzling the media at this time of transition in the nation’s democracy.
Explaining that four gunmen scaled the fence of his house, along Shendam Road, at about 4:15am, Joseph said: “I give God the glory that I escaped the attack to tell my ordeals. They scaled the fence, first attacking our security man who was sleeping outdoors, stabbing him on his right palm while he struggled to free himself from their grip.”
