Abuja-Chief Sebastine Onuegbu of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation has said that the nation’s economy would have suffered if the Monday election was not rescheduled.
 
Onuegbu made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that INEC made a wise decision by postponing the election otherwise it would have been a monumental loss economically.

“ I commend our political leaders who had taken the pains to dialogue with INEC to change the date of the National Assembly election to Saturday, AprilI 9 and subsequent dates.

 “Nigerians neither planned nor bargained for the poll on Monday. We are used to conducting our elections on Saturdays. There would have been a general apathy to the election which will result in low turnout of voters,” he said.

Onuegbu said that people would be prepared for the election by April 9 and that by that date INEC would have mobilised its staff and voting materials to the polling booths.
