IBADAN – The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Mr. Ayo Adakeja has finally bowed to pressure to ensure that voters whose names were missing in the voters register during last Saturday botched election should be given a chance to vote.

The persistent calls by the voters and the former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina paid off yesterday as the REC said he had already told Electoral Officers in the 33 local governments in the state to use manual register to correct the anomaly. He said this while speaking with newsmen yesterday in Ibadan.

Many voters in the state had faulted the exercise when they could not find their names in the registers. In many polling units, hundreds of voters alleged that their names had been altered in the Direct Data Capture machines.

Upon discovery of six machines with some INEC staff in a popular hotel close to the government secretariat, they had demanded a re-display of voter’s register to enable them ascertain if their names were still intact but the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega had allayed their fears that their names were still intact.

The suspicion led to the call for the re-deployment of the REC with the Action Congress of Nigeria state leader, Alhaji Adesina saying the pople of the state would use every means to reject fake results in the state.
