Demand for Federal Government’s bonds rises by 14%

Demand for Federal Government of Nigeria’s (FGN) Bond soared last week, as the volume and value of bonds traded in the Over-the-Counter (OTC) bond market appreciated by 13.85 per cent and 7.1 per cent respectively.

In particular, a turnover of 232.9 million units valued at N200.5 billion was recorded in 1,694 deals, in contrast to the preceding week’s turnover of 204.56 million units valued at N187.20 billion in 1,143 deals.

The 7th FGN Bond 2030 Series 3 (10% FGN July 2030) enjoyed the most patronage in the sector, accounting for 34.21 per cent of the total turnover, with 79.67 million units valued at N61.69 billion in 699 deals.

The 7th FGN Bond 2015 Series 2 (4% FGN April 2015 ) followed, accounting for 20.54 per cent of the total turnover, with 47.83 million units valued at N36.56 billion in 382 deals.

Of the 33 FGN Bond available, only 24 enjoyed investors’ patronage, compared to 13 in the preceding week.
Also, two FGN bonds – 14.50% FGN March 2011 (3rd FGN Bond 2011 Series 5) and FG24DS 2011(24th FGN Development Stock 2011) – were delisted following their maturity.

However, there were no transactions in the Federal Government Development Stocks, State Government Bonds and Industrial Loans/Preference Stocks sectors.
