*As Ekiti govt reverses public holiday

The new directives from Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that the National Assembly election will now  take place this Saturday instead of today as earlier announced, may cause loss of manpower in the South West as some of the states already declared today public holiday.

Specifically, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State yesterday declared today a work free day to enable every registered citizen  exercise their franchise.

In a statewide broadcast in Akure, the governor said the work free day was to ensure that we all participate in the National Assembly election as rescheduled by INEC.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State government has reversed the public holiday it earlier declared today (Monday, April 4, 2011) for the National Assembly election. This decision was as a result of the further shift in the date of the election into the National Assembly by INEC from Monday, April 4 to Saturday, April 9.

In a statement by Governor Kayode Fayemi signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mojeed Jamiu urged workers in the state to resume at their respective offices and duty posts tomorrow. He commended the workers and other residents of the state for their peaceful conduct during the postponed elections, weekend.
