Abuja – The FCT Minister, Senator  Bala Mohammed, has called on religious leaders in the territory to pray for the success of the general elections which will begin on Saturday. 

Mohammed,  who made the call  in Abuja while addressing  some Muslim clerics at a security meeting, urged the leaders to use their closeness to God to pray for the country.

He said the country needed fervent prayers for peaceful elections, adding that the country  belonged to all Nigerians irrespective of  religious, ethnic  or political inclinations.

“I charge you all as clerics to preach unity in the country and de-emphasis these things that divide us.

 “I am of the belief that power belongs to God and He will give it to whoever pleases Him at a particular period of time,” he said.

Mohammed advised the clerics to see themselves as representatives of God on earth and use their position to promote peaceful co-existence.

The minister, who charged FCT residents to shun any act of  violence during and after the elections, commended  the clerics for their support to the FCT administration.

In his remarks, Abuja National Mosque Chief Imam,  Musa Muhammad, prayed for peace and tranquility during  the elections.
