Lagos –  A Lagos High Court, yesterday,  rejected  fresh attempt to secure bail for two community leaders in Ishawoland in Ikorudu Local Government Area of Lagos State, who are standing trial before the court for alleged attempt to murder one Shina Ibrahim in 2004.

Trial judge in the matter, Justice Oluwayemi, refused the application on the ground that the trial had been given accelerated hearing, adding that there was no need to further release the defendants on bail. The court pointed out that releasing the two defendants may promote tension in the community.

The defendants were alleged to have attempted to murder one Shina Ibrahim on July 6, 2004 at Oke-Oko Ishawo in Ikorodu Area of Lagos State, an offence punishable under Section 320 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap C17, Volume 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.

At the resumed hearing of the  case, defence counsel, renewed his application for bail for his client, adding that it was necessary for the court to grant them bail in the interest of justice.
He argued that  the defendants are responsible members of their community, adding that  Kabiru Bada, was suffering from hypertension.
