IBADAN – OYO State Governor, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala, yesterday, expressed satisfaction with the involvement of the armed forces in the maintenance of law and order during the forthcoming elections, describing the Federal Government decision as a welcome development.
Akala who spoke while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Oneyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika on a courtesy call in his office, expressed optimism that the April general elections will be peaceful, free and fair throughout Oyo State, assuring the Chief of Army Staff that the peace loving people of the State will not engage themselves in any form of violence during the election period.
The governor commended the Nigerian Army for its role and efforts in the sustenance of the nation’s democracy, adding that his administration and the civil society had been enjoying the support of the Nigerian Army.
Earlier in his remark, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ihejirika, expressed satisfaction with the existing cordial relationship between the army, the government and the people of Oyo State assuring the Governor that his men were fully prepared to ensure a smooth conduct of the forth coming elections.
