FOLLOWING reported attacks on a Peoples Democratic Party campaign train at Okon-Aku in Ohafia LGA of Abia State on Monday, which left a PDP supporter, Friday Imahi, dead and several others injured, Governor Theodore Orji has directed all security agencies in the state to immediately swing into action and arrest perpetrators of the act.
He also pointed accusing fingers at the opposition Progressive Peoples Alliance.
In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Omereuwa, the governor noted that Abia could not condone thuggery in the name of politics.
Commiserating with with the PDP chairman at Ohafia, Kingsley Imaga, family of the deceased and entire Okon Aku community over the incident, Governor Orji vowed that government would do everything possible to bring the perpetrators of the act to book and assured that victory was for the PDP.
He said: “The victory of the PDP is the only way to ensure that this unfortunate death was not in vain; we can no longer condone the resort to violence by the PPA or any other political party in the state all in the name of politics.”
He noted that the PDP campaign train was attacked by a group of miscreants suspected to be Progressive Peoples Alliance’s thugs who allegedly shot and killed the victim for decamping from PPA to PDP.
“The miscreants were alleged to have been mobilised and led by a dismissed personnel of the State Security Service currently serving as a recruitment officer to a chieftain of the PPA who is currently campaigning to actualise his senatorial ambition in the state,”Orji noted.
Continuing, he said “this same dismissed State Security personnel is believed to be the mastermind of a similar attack on PDP members and supporters in Umunneochi LGA penultimate week during which several persons were injured and for which five political thugs of the PPA who were arrested, had been remanded in custody by the court.”
