LAGOS – A leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Mushin branch, Taoreed Faronbi, was, yesterday, arrested by officials of the Department of State Security Service, SSS, in Lagos, with five pump action guns and two packets of live cartridges.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, who is fondly called Baba-Alado by his supporters, was picked up by plain clothes SSS operatives at the early hours Monday, from his residence in the Isheri Osun area of the state.
Sources at the SSS disclosed that five pump action guns and two packets of live ammunition were recovered from him during the early morning raid on his apartment.
Vanguard also gathered that the arrest was in connection with the spate of criminal activities in Mushin and it environs, including the increase in violent clashes between factions of NURTW in the area and allegation of arms buildup for the April polls in the state.
A source at the SSS, who pleaded anonymity, as he was not authorised to talk to the press on the matter, said that the SSS had their eyes on Baba-Alado for a long time, as they had received several complaints on his activities in the state.
“He is currently in our custody and he is undergoing interrogations. We know his antecedents,” he said.
