ABUJA-MINISTER of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, has assured that President Goodluck Jonathan is committed to signing into law and implementing the N18.000 new National Minimum Wage .

Chief Wogu explained yesterday that the delay in signing the Bill was as a result of administrative processes at various levels of governance which were in the interest of the Nigerian workers.

A statement by Mr. Olowookere Samuel, Assistant Director (Press), said the Minister stated this after declaring open the workshop on peace, credible and violence free 2011 election organised by the Foundation for Peace and Security Education in collaboration with National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

Chief Wogu assured organised labour unions that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan recognized its agitation while assuring them that “no time is lost yet as Mr. President is committed to assent and implement the new National Minimum Wage Bill. Trade unions are known for agitation and one of the goals of agitations is to prove their point and they have given government notice and the government is conscious of the notice and we know that things could be done within the time limit and we will be able to look at the issue that is at stake.”

 The Minister called on all Nigerian workers to support the Presidential bid of President Goodluck Jonathan as this administration is labour friendly. “Let me also take this opportunity to remind Nigerian workers that the administration of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is labour friendly.”
