LAGOS –  EIGHT days to the first round of elections, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, yesterday, urged Christians in the country to take a stand against rigging and other forms of electoral malpractices, including political violence.

Speaking at a pre-election conference/Christian Welfare Initiative, CWI, National Awards Ceremony, organised by the CWI in Lagos, the  Governor, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs, Princess Akitoye Braimoh, appealed to Christians to avoid any gathering associated with rigging.

The Lagos State governor, who is seeking  another four-year term as governor of the state, said,  “do not be involved in any form of political violence. Encourage yourselves with the slogan of one man, one vote, and please do not sell your votes.”

He urged Lagosians to be fully prepared to fight against electoral malpractices by eating before going for accreditation and  waiting, not only to cast their  votes, but also to defend their votes.

According to the governor, every Nigerian, including the Christian community must endeavour to take record of the result in their polling unit with a view to comparing same with their counterparts after the polls.
