Detectives investigating the murder of the late Basil Ogbonayan, who was allegedly killed by his brother in-law early this month, yesterday, revealed that the deceased was drugged before he was killed.
His assailant, Okafor Okereke, who was paraded before newsmen, yesterday, in Lagos, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, begged his sister to forgive him for sending her husband to an untimely grave.
The remains of the late Basil were discovered inside a drum around Ejigbo area of Lagos, where the suspect had dumped him, two days after his sudden disappearance from his Okota home.
Although the suspect insisted that the deceased owed him the sum of N1.5 million, a claim the widow, Nnenna, described as a lie, he, however, blamed his
action on his inability to control his emotion.
According to him, “ I was angry because Basil trivialized the money issue. He asked why the fuss over the N1.5m he was owing me. In the process, we started quarreling and he dashed into the kitchen and picked a cutlass with the intention to cut me.”
