AWKA – ALL the candidates vying for legislative offices on the platform of All Prograssive Grand Alliance, APGA, in next month’s general elections in Anambra State have signed a code of conduct to avoid dumping the party after winning elections.

A chieftain of the party and chairman of Aguata South of APGA , Mr. Peter Umeh, said in an interview at Nnewi yesterday that though the party was not doubting the integrity of its candidates, there was need to extract some kind of commitment from them, in view of the past experience where  people would use a political party to secure a mandate only to decamp to another party thereafter.

He said:  “They signed that they will remain in APGA after winning election and will be reporting their activities in the various chambers to their constituents, which is what we had lacked in this state.
“Over the years, people would ask the people to vote for them, promising all sorts of things, only to abandon the people and return when it is another election, to begin with fresh promise.

“So in this case, APGA candidates have agreed to be holding town hall meetings with the people as a way of giving them a sense of belonging. They also signed that they will be working as a team by holding regular meetings among themselves and with officials of the state to know the needs of the state and how to go about attracting them to the state.”

“We don’t need their money, but quality representation which will be in the overall interest of the state.”
Umeh stated that with the performance of Governor Peter Obi, which had even been acclaimed by political opponents, the chances of APGA candidates were very bright, adding that with the caliber of candidates carrying the party’s flag in all the constituencies, the party would sweep the polls in Anambra State.
