Sekibo barred from campaigning in Tai LGA hqs

By Gbenga Oke
Governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Rivers State, Dr. Abiye Sekibo and members of his party, were, yesterday, disallowed from campaigning in Saakpenwa, headquarters of Tai Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that Sekibo was billed to address a campaign rally in Tai, before heading to Opobo Town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, where a crowd of ACN supporters were waiting.

It could not be ascertained, if the denial of access to the campaign venue was on the orders of the chairman of Tai council and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Oyigbo/Tai/Eleme Federal constituency for the House of Representatives, Chief Barry Mpigi.

The Director of Publicity and Communications, Abiye Sekibo Campaign Organization, Mr. Jerry Needam, confirmed the development. He described it as part of moves to truncate campaigns of the opposition in the state.

It will be recalled that similar incident occurred on March 21, 2011 in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, where the ACN was denied access to the Rumueme playground for its rally.
