LAGOS – As Julius Berger Construction Company begins rehabilitation work on the dilapidated Oshodi- Apapa  expressway, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Prof. Bamidele Badejo, has said that the state government had not been  given workplan by the  Federal  Road Maintainance  Agency, FERMA, on the project.

However, Badejo, said as responsive and responsible government, the ministry has tentatively deployed men of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, to the axis to manage and control traffic, so as to eliminate chaotic traffic situation along the road.

“We ought to have been carried along in their (FERMA) workplans but we were not informed,” Badejo said.
According to him, the ministry has diverted traffic to other alternative routes where rehabilitation work was on-going with LASTMA officials on ground to ensure compliance with road signs as well as maintain safety measures.

The diversion routes include Ijesha, Ilasa, Cele bus stops into inner Itire and Okota areas, respectively. He  said that more LASTMA men would be drafted to the area today  to complement the existing number of men on ground.

Badejo, also explained that the ministry is currently engaged in discussions with other traffic management agencies such as Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSCon how to effectively manage traffic throughout the duration of the rehabilitation.

He therefore, urged motorists and other road users to exercise patience along the road as everything was been done to ensure traffic flow.
