All invited 15 foreign-based players on Tuesday morning stormed the ancient city of Benin, ahead of Saturday’s 2012 Olympic Games qualifying match between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
Though he originally invited 12, three more have joined the party with the two released by Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Samson Siasia and a new invitee Terna Suswam from Portuguese club, Vitoria Setubal. Suswan was a fixture in the Nigeria ‘B’ team that won the WAFU Cup of Nations in Abeokuta last year.
Team officials confirmed on Tuesday that with the situation, only 15 domestic League players would be retained, to make for a total of 30.
The Nigeria Football Federation has invited Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole as the Special Guest of Honour for the encounter, starting at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium from 4pm on Saturday.
Ghanaian Alex Asante is the Match Commissioner for the Olympics qualifier in Benin. He will arrive Nigeria on Thursday, same day as the referees from Niger Republic.
Centre referee is Ibrahim Chaibou while the 1st Assistant referee is Abdoulaye Mamane. The 2nd Assistant referee is Mani Abdou Salam and 4th official is Ibrahim Mamane.
Dream Team wallop Insurance 4-1
The national U-23 team secured a 4-1 win over Nigeria National League club, Bendel Insurance in a friendly at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Leicester City of England forward Daniel Chima Uchechi, who played for Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, scored the first goal for Austin Eguavoen’s Dream Team, before goals by Ayo Saka, Osas Okoro and Super Eagle Ekigho Ehiosun sealed a comfortable win, four days before a crucial 2012 Olympic Games qualifier against Equatorial Guinea at the same venue.
