NSCDC distributes security gadgets ahead of election

Ahead of the April general elections, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC) says it has distributed security gadgets such as Close Circuit Television(CCTV)bomb detector and disaster management equipment to all its formations across the country, for effective monitoring of elections.

Director-General of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin who made the disclosure during an in-house sensitization programme organized for officers and men of the Corps in Abuja, warned all field commanders to shun every act of corruption by remaining committed to their duty .

Emphasizing on the need to remain steadfast in their duty by working harmoniously with other security agencies, as well as international observers and election monitoring teams, he warned against the act of compromise, reminding that “ the credibility of the election to the nation is of paramount importance and the whole world is watching Nigeria as the Giant of Africa to lead others”.

He at the same time cautioned the electorates to shun all forms of violence and acts of hooliganism, informing that modalities had been put in place to checkmate and arrest anyone found disturbing the peace of the nation during the elections.

He disclosed that as part of the Corps’ preparedness for the elections, it had trained its men on counter-terrorism, nuclear and biochemical, intelligence and information gathering, adding that it had also begun briefing them on their conduct and operations at the polls.

Considering the various training, he said: “Security gadgets have been released and distributed accordingly to all formations such as CCTV, bomb detecting equipment, nose guards, helmets, mobilities (motorcycles), different types of recording items, portable laptops, sniffer dogs for crowd control as well as equipment for disaster management, search, rescue and mitigation, among others, for the purpose of effective monitoring and supervision”. He added that modalities had been put in place by the Federal Government to guarantee the welfare and successful operation of field officers.

Speakers at the in-house programme which participants were drawn from the zonal and states commands, area and districts offices across the nation as well as the national headquarters and FCT, including stakeholders in electioneering processes such as the National Human Right Commission, National Orientation Agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigeria Airforce, Prisons, Federal Road Safety Corps, Immigrations, among others.
