President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday challenged every registered Bayelsan to reach out to at least ten Nigerians to support his presidential ambition in the April polls saying this would translate to about 50 million votes for him to secure victory at the polls.
Dr. Jonathan who made the appeal at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa in continuation of his presidential campaign for the April polls also dismissed claims by candidates of the various political parties in Bayelsa and other states, that he has offered his blessing to their aspiration irrespective of their political parties.
The president who said he did not come to Bayelsa his home state to campaign having secured the commitment of his people to deliver their votes for the PDP at the poll however called on them to go all out to convince Nigerians at the markets, marriage ceremonies and other social function as well as travel the length and breath of the country to drum support for his presidential ambition.
Clad in a cream colour Ijaw traditional attire and resource control hat to match, President Jonathan said, “every Bayelsans must go out to thank at least 10 Nigerians for accepting me. We had the PDP primaries and in the primaries I won in all the six geo political zones.
“For us to win in all the six zones shows that Nigerians appreciate and want us. What you need do for us is every registered Bayelsans should at least beacon on ten Nigerians. We are about 500,000 from the INEC record and if one person can thank ten Nigerians that will give us about 50 million votes.”
The other twenty five million votes he said could be shared among the other political parties.
The President who urged the youths to shun violence said his political ambition or that of any politician is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.
He also called on Nigerian women to rally support for the party assuring that they would be carried along in the scheme of things if voted into office just as he urged the people to work with their governors to ensure the development of the states.
On claims by candidates of the various political parties in Bayelsa and other states, that he has offered his blessing to their aspiration irrespective of their political parties Dr. Jonathan said though he has some level of relationship with individuals aspiring for various positions in Bayelsa and outside, “I will never support any candidate that is not of the PDP. I don’t tell lies because a lie is a lie. As you grow up, you will realize the burden of leadership. I don’t have two tongues. I don’t say one thing and tell another.
