Works Minister Senator Mohammed Daggash is insisting that contracts for the rehabilitation of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway Lagos was awarded to construction giant, Julis Berger PLC in November last year at a cost of N6.2billion.

The Minister’s Chief Press Secretary, Taye Akinyemi in a statement in Abuja said: “For the benefit of the generality of Nigerians and particularly concerned Nigerians who daily experience the excruciating condition on this road, it is necessary to present the facts of the case and to confirm that the contract for this road has been awarded to Julius Berger PLC and they in turn have accepted the award.

“The Ministry on Wednesday 10th of November 2010 presented a memo to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in which it gave the background to the project, the derivable benefits, the scope of work and the tender procedure adopted.

“The Council after the presentation approved the award of the contract for the rehabilitation of Apapa – Oshodi Expressway section 1: km 7+00 (Beach land Junction) to km 12 + 600 RHS in favour of Julius Berger (Nigeria) PLC in the sum of N6,241,059,730,33 (Six billion, Two hundred and Fifty one Million, Fifty Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty Naira, Thirty Three Kobo) with a completion period of 12 months.

“Following this approval, the Ministry on Thursday November 25, 2010 issued a letter of Award to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and the company issued a letter of acceptance of offer on Friday, November 26, 2010.
