MAKURDI – The spate of political lawlessness and violence across Benue State in the last few months has again raised its ugly head, with the shooting of the Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Deputy Governor, Mr. Ejembi Oguche, by unknown gunmen.
This latest incident occurred last night along the Gbajimba-Uniagric road at 8:30p.m., when the Peugeot Expert bus, marked Media Crew of the Office of the Deputy Governor, conveying journalists from a political rally in Guma council, ran into an ambush laid by suspected political thugs.
The attack on the reporters left Mr. Oguche with bullets lodged in his head and hand, while the driver of the bus, Mr. Inalegwu Ode, also sustained bullet wounds on his shoulders and chest.
Both of them are in critical condition and currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.
Meanwhile, state chairman of PDP, Dr. Agbo Emmanue, blamed the dastardly act on the opposition, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
However, state chairman of ACN, Comrade Abba Yaro, described the allegation as false, unfounded and baseless.
He said: “It’s all lies. How can we engage in violence when everyone knows that our party has been peaceful in its conduct?”
