BY DAYO JOHNSON

AKURE – President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, assured Nigerians that he will not use his ‘enormous power’ to intimidate or suppress the opposition during and after the coming general elections. He spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital during his campaign, yesterday, at Gani Fawehinmi arcade.

According to him, “I will not misuse the power vested in me as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to either intimidate or suppress anybody because of election.

“Rather, we would use the power vested in us positively for the development of this country. The coming general elections would be free and fair, it will be one-man, one- vote,” he added.

President Jonathan said if given the opportunity to return, “we will run an open government that will not discriminate against anybody either because of your ethnic or religious background.

“We will use the best brains in this country and encourage our youths so that together  we will change the face of this country. We will tap the resources that are vested in our youth for the development of this country.” The President promised to create more jobs so as to discourage arm struggle amongst youths in the country.
On power, the President promised that his administration will stabilise power so as to make industries in the country flourish, adding that ailing industries would be revamped.

President Jonathan said within the next four years, the Federal Government will look into the exploration and exploitation of the vast bitumen deposit in the state (Ondo). On his re-election, the President said an investment in him was not a waste but an investment in the future of our children.

“We are determined to run a government that will change this country for good and make it a cynosure amongst nations of the World.” The President assured Nigerians that his administration will keep faith with all his promises.

According to him more federal presence would be noticeable in the South West States if they cast their votes for him in the April polls.

He welcomed the new members, who  decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and assure that they would not be discriminated against.
