BENIN – ANXIETY gripped caretaker committee chairmen in the 18 Local Government Area of Edo State, yesterday, following revelations that some of them may be dropped in order to give some aspirants, who lost in the primaries of the party.
But the move which is aimed at compensating the aspirants in order to stop them from decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may spell doom for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, because investigation showed that some of the aspirants, who are aggrieved have concluded plans to use the machinery of the councils to work against the candidates they lost to in the primaries of the ACN.
Vanguard was reliably informed that the idea of ceding some of these councils to some of the aspirants, who lost in the primaries of the party, was part of the efforts by the leadership of the party in the state to settle the rift, which arose during the primaries of the party, particularly in Edo Central senatorial district.
It was learnt that some members of the state House of Assembly have waded into the matter, with a view to informing the leadership of the party on the dangers of removing some caretaker committee chairmen because of some persons, who lost in the primaries.
Vanguard learnt that if their effort to convince the leadership of the party led by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, on the need to stall the move fails, giving out those positions as compensation to party members, who lost in the primaries may spell doom for the party in the general elections.
