Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN (BRF) has constituted a 9-man committee to ensure the continuous success of the Super Eagles as they continue to play in Lagos. This is part of the administration’s demonstration of commitment to the development of sports from the grassroots and the principle of ‘’catch-them-young”.

BRF, a known sportsman and footballer has said that, the success of the New Deal Super Eagles national football team being put together by Coach Samson Siasia should be the concern of every football loving Nigerian.

He commended the turn_out of football fans during the friendly match played with the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at Teslim Balogun Stadium recently. He also stated that, this task should not be left to the Nigerian Football Federation alone.

Towards this end, a 9_man Committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development (MYSSD), Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele. Other members are Austin Okocha (Jayjay); Victor Ikpeba; Peter Rufai; Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, President General, Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club; Onochie Anibeze;  Innocent(Tu-Face) Idibia, musician; Filade Olumide, PRO Sports MYSSD and Mrs. Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, Secretary of the Committee.

This Committee has been mandated to ensure the continuous successful hosting of Super Eagles matches in Lagos, ensure enlightenment and massive turn_out of football fans, ensure security and establish Lagos remains as the Sports destination in Africa.

Rivers set for annual football awards

Rivers State Government has finalised plans for the hosting of the annual AIT Football Awards which comes up early next month in the state capital, Port Harcourt at the last awards held in Abuja, the Rivers State governor Amaechi who was the guest of honour had promised to make the awards bigger and better

Efforts to host the awards before now were not possible due to what the organisers termed as logistics reasons arising from the stormy clouds that envelloped the country’s football firmament.

“Now that we believe the atmosphere is positive, it is time to resume what has in just one year become the most credible awards in the country” says the managing director of Neo Media, the award marketing consultants.

what  Mr. Ehibrahimah could not confirm was whether communication giants MTN will participate in the awards this year, as they did last year.

“ We are talking to a lot of sponsors and partners and we intend to tie down the contracts this week” He said.

Edibe to handle S/final match

Nigerian referee Peter Edibe continues to make progress in the ongoing 2nd edition of the African Nations Championship Sudan 2011, as he has been picke dto handle the first semi final match between Algeria and Tunisia which comes up tomorrow at the Khartoum International Stadium.

After five credible outings that got to the quarter finals, Edibe was considered good enough to continue at a time half of the refereees are sent home.

The match will have Seechum Rajindraparsadof Mauritius in the centre,Edibe first assistant, Diarra Balla of Mali as second assistant while Gassama Papa Bakary of Gambia will be the fourth official.
