Kwara Liberation Front, KLF, has described as “opportunistic and outright lie”, claims by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the state, Mr. AbdulFatah Ahmed, that his emergence based on zoning was in tune with the principles of equity and fairness.
In a statement, Chairman and Secretary of the front, Messrs Ishaq Mustapha and Abdullahi Gambari, respectively, argued that Ahmed was imposed on the Kwara PDP by Governor Bukola Saraki to cover the ills of his eight-year rule which they claimed was dotted by systemic corruption and persistent suppression of the people.
It reads: “It is pertinent to ask Ahmed to tell the world whether himself and Saraki did cast their ballot for zoning at the just-concluded PDP presidential primaries.
“It is an open secret that Saraki actually led PDP delegates, including this same Ahmed, to vote overwhelmingly against the same ‘principle of equity and fair play’.
“If this is so, as we know it is, then at what stage did Ahmed become aware of the need for equity and fair play?”
It described Ahmed as “an opportunist who would say or do anything, however horrible, as long as it serves his primordial sentiment.”
It, however urged the people of the state to disregard politicians like Ahmed and go for competence, good governance and sincerity of purpose in the coming poll in the interest of the future of our youths. Come April 2011, our people must bid farewell to politics of deceit and sheer opportunism which the PDP represents, and choose a bright future for themselves and their generations unborn by electing a candidate that will truly do their bidding.”
