Gunmen raid 2 banks in Lagos

Gunmen,  Thursday, stormed the Ebute-Metta , Lagos branch of two first generation banks, carting away an unspecified amount.
The bandits numbering 12 as gathered, stormed the bank in two unmarked Toyota  vehicles at about 2am. They were said to have positioned themselves strategically in readiness for any intruder.

Sporadic gun shots from the robbers reported jolted the residents, some of whom as gathered, made distress calls to policemen at Denton division.

Report said the robbers, however, succeeded in entering only one of the banks as the security doors of the other defied the gun shots.

Two Armored Personnel Carriers, according to Police sources, with a detachment of both mobile and conventional policemen prevented the dare-devils from breaking through the walls of the bullet proved doors. They were said to have fled the scene on sighting the APCs.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Samuel Jinadu , when contacted, said one of the bandit’s operational vehicles abandoned after a hot pursuit, was recovered. He could however not state  whether there was any arrest, as he claimed not to have been properly briefed by the Divisional Police Officer under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred.

Jinadu was however quick to describe the operation as a foiled one, adding also that the affected bank vault was not tampered with.
