Left luggage at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja is becoming a source of worry for the facility’’s managers, Mr Alfred Itua, the Head of Public Affairs unit of the Federal Airports Authority at the airport, has said.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja that it was lamentable that some of the left luggage had been lying at the airport’’s stores for more than two years.

Itua said that the left luggage should not have been kept at the facility for more than six months, however. He said the airport’s managers were prepared to return such left luggage to the owners the moment they provided proof of ownership.

He expressed regret that owners of such luggage never bothered to return to the airport to claim them. He said: “the funny thing is that they don’’t come back to come and say, I have forgotten this thing and I want to claim it.

So I will appeal to the public that if you forgot any item in the airport, try and come back. It’s not supposed to be more than six months, but some of these items have been here for more than two years and no-one to claim it.’

Itua said that the left luggage now littered the stores both at the domestic and international wings of the airport. He said that the managers were reluctant to destroy them only for the owners to show up to lay claim to the ones already destroyed.
