Ado – Residents of Ado community in Nasarawa State will soon heave a sigh of relief as PHCN has promised to resolve the power supply problem in the area soon.

The Chief Executive Officer of Abuja Distribution Company, Abdulganiyu Umar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado on Thursday that a transmission station to be installed in Karu, FCT, shortly, would take care of the problem.

The manager made the promise against the background of complaints by residents over the inadequate supply of electricity to the area in the last one year.

“We get light once in a week or once in every two weeks. The light comes between midnight and 2 a.m. or sometimes between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.

“We are not different from people living in the village. You are forced to wake in the middle of the night to either iron clothes for that period,” Mrs Cecilia Odey, a resident, said.

Malam Paul Aji, also a resident, said the people had resigned themselves to fate as there seemed to be no solution in sight.

“All our efforts and several visits to PHCN on the matter have failed as we are being dribbled like football.

“The best thing is for the government to privatise PHCN, may be, the situation would improve.

“I hear they are against the privatisation (of the company). Let us try the private sector first. When that fails, we will know that we tried but failed.

“At least, it is better than this hell we are going through in the hands of PHCN,” Aji said.

But Umar, the Abuja distribution chief, said although there were some problems with power supply in the area, the residents were being “economical with the truth”.

He said that when installed, the transmission station would cover the area and others under its jurisdiction would go a long way in tackling the epileptic electricity supply.

Umar urged the residents to exercise more patience as the PHCN was doing all within its powers to resolve the situation.
