Abuja – The Management of both State and National Assembly in Abuja started arrangements to induct new members in June. This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of two-day, 8th Meeting of Clerks of the National and State Houses of Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday.

Alhaji Shehu Randali, Chairman, Communiqué Drafting Committee and Clerk, Kebbi House of Assembly, said each state legislature would organise the induction for their members-elect.

Randali said the induction was to introduce the members-elect to the nuances of the legislature.

The communiqué recommended that the National Assembly should organise workshops on inauguration of new parliament for Clerks and their Deputies as well as state Houses of Assembly on March 31.

To facilitate the training and retraining of its members and other legislative staff, the communique said the establishment of the National Legislative Institute would go a long way in actualising the dream.

It noted with satisfaction, efforts made by the National Assembly in establishment of the Legislative Archive and National Institute for Legislative Studies.

The clerks noted with concern, the non existence of state House of Assembly Service Commission in many states, saying its establishment was absolutely essential.

It recommended that the national secretariat of Nigerian legislatures should conduct research on how to establish Society of Clerks-at-the-Table at country level.
