Ambrose Alli Varsity students on rampage

By GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE

STUDENTS of the Edo State owned Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, yesterday, went on rampage over lack of water in the University campus.

It will be recalled that the students had earlier in the week, given  a two-week ultimatum to the state government to reverse the increase in school fees or face a legal action.

However, Vanguard, gathered that the students had on Monday prevented workers of the university from going to their duty posts as a result of lack of water in the institution, following the breakdown of the European Union (EU) donated dam, which supplies water to the University.

But reacting to the demonstration over the lack of water, the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Chris Adamagbo who spoke to Vanguard on telephone, said  he was on his annual vacation, adding that  the water issue had been resolved and put behind them.

“I was told that there is a demonstration by the students, but I am not aware of the reason for the demonstration. I will find out and let you know,” he said.

Following the protest by the students, the University authorities were said to have reacted on Monday by dissolving the Student Union Government, SUG, executive and  arrested  the SUG President, Mr. Itote Damisa, who was, however, later released.

This development was said to have infuriated the students, who, yesterday, protested violently and in the process destroyed property on campus.

They were said to have deposited a mock coffin at the University campus near the security office.
