In an effort to prepare the Police for any bomb explosions that may occur during the 2011 general elections, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, has approved the training of over 350 policemen attached to Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, on “Bomb Scene Investigation and Management.”

The officers , among other things, are expected to receive an intensive three-week training from seasoned bomb experts from Blue Sea Investment, a renowned international consultant based in South Africa.

They would be trained on how to face the challenges on the latest trend in terrorism involving the use of improvised explosive device.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, ‘B” Department, Friday Eboka, said the officers would also get training on demolishing vehicles stuffed with explosives.

The training would, according to him, begins today, with a huge demolition of unserviceable vehicles along Lagos Ibadan Expressway by Shagamu interchange.

Explaining, Eboka said, “the demolitions is designed to promote  professionalism and upgrade the officers knowledge to international standard.

He therefore appealed to members of the public, especially those residing or doing business around the area, not to panic on hearing explosives sounds or shockwaves, assuring that “ the demolitions are not meant to hurt anyone”.
