Dutse — Jigawa State Government and PZ Cussons have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, for the provision of lecturers from Europe who are to teach English, Mathematics and Education in its College of Education, Gumel.

Chairman of PZ Cussons, Professor Emmanuel C. Edozien, OFR, who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Bala Shagari, Sarkin Mafaran Shagari at the MoU signing held at the State House, said PZ Cusson Foundation initiated Volunteer Service Overseas, VSO, for Jigawa State to help boost the quality of education in the state.

Prof. Edozien stressed that the decision to sponsor foreign lecturers to teach in the state college of education is part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility in support of the good works of the state government.

According to him, it is the only way the company can support the state government which is providing good health, road, education and water infrastructures to better the people of the state.

Edozien further explained that the foundation has implemented over 24 projects in 13 locations around the country, adding, “Jigawa State is first to benefit from the VSO projects outside the cities where the company’s operations is sited.”

His words  PZ’s intends to support  Jigawa State by surpassing some states where the company had supported in the past’.

Commenting on the term of MOU, the Secretary to the state Government, Dr Aminu Abdullahi said, the Jigawa state government will ensure the conducive working environment of expatriates by providing language laboratory, accommodation, and vehicles for them.

In his response, Governor Sule Lamido said his administration placed educational development as its top priority because of its importance to overall development of any society.

Governor Lamido then appeals to them to redouble assistance to the state, stressing that Jigawa state is rated as one of the poorest state in the federation and need for assistance goodwill organisations.
