Gardner convicted for N89,000 theft

A 31-year-old gardner of Plain High Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, Joseph Josuah has been convicted by an Abuja magistrate court in zone 2 for stealing the sum of N89, 000,  belonging to one Mr. Joseph Gopar of the same estate.

He was alleged to have  stolen the money from a bag owned by his colleague on  January 23, and traveled for his father’s burial.

The police arraigned the accused on one-charge count of theft contrary to section 288 of the penal code law.

Josuah pleaded guilty to the offence leveled against him, when the charge  was read to him at the hearing and begged the court for lenience.

Magistrate Bashir Alkali after a summary trial convicted the accused and adjourned the case till February 16, for sentence.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji told the court that the accused stole the money after the complainant left the room, and he (Josuah) traveled to village for his father’s burial.

“That he kept the sum of N89, 800 in their security room and went out for work, and you, Joseph Josuah went inside the room and dishonestly stole away the sum of N89, 000 from his bag,” prosecution had said.
