2011: Minister advocates door-to-door campaign

BY KINGSLEY OMONOBI
Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, has described the door-to-door campaign initiative as a project capable of breaking the restrictive cycle of intimidation, slogan-shouting, rent-a-crowd style and rabble-rousing of politicking in the country.

The Minister made the disclosure yesterday as a special guest of honour at Rivers State’s door-to- door volunteers project in Abuja.

The project, which was put together by volunteers championing the Goodluck/Sambo cause in April’s Presidential election, is aimed at getting youths involved in the elections, using modern electronic medium and ICT.

Olubolade, who was full of praise for the organizers of the project, said the initiative aimed at harnessing the collective  enthusiasm, hopes and aspirations and reach of new media, was surely desired to bring about positive change in electioneering.

“The door-to-door project is clearly on the verge of introducing a paradigm shift in electioneering in Nigeria and ushering in a new era of issue-based politics; marking a sharp departure from politics of godfatherism, coercion, inducement and rigging.

“This will render the political middlemen powerless by going direct to the grassroots with the message of change,” the minister enthused.

The colourful ceremony saw hundreds of participants adorn the all red t-shirts inscribed with the Goodluck/Sambo electioneering slogans and pictures.
