A socio-political pressure group, Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Group, COSEG, has raised alarm alleging that a plan to destabilise Lagos State by some undesirable elements in the society before and during the April elections had been uncovered.

President and Secretary of the group, Messrs Dayo Ogunlana and Razaq Oloko-Oba, respectively, alleged that “some people, suspected to be stooges of some unpopular politicians in the state have perfected plans to design vests and symbol of a popular party with a view to wear them and cause chaos to portray the popular party as violent.”

According to COSEG, the plan was being hatched to cause crisis of an unimaginable dimension that could either lead to cancellation of the coming election in Lagos State or lead to declaration of a state of emergency.

Besides, the group said that the popularity of “the only unarguably popular party in Lagos, as well as the unbeatable performance of its candidate, seem to be the headache of the evil planners, having realised that their own candidate is a faceless materialist, who has no chance of winning a single ward.”

While asserting that “ours is not a partisan organisation,” the group said “we would have raised the alarm all the same if reverse is the case in the matter under discussion,” just as it added that “our modus oprandi is to ensure the stability of Yorubaland and by extension, the whole country.”

It, however, warned that “any attempt to destabilise Lagos state where people are enjoying the dividends of democracy to the maximum, as well as any part of Yorubaland would be resisted by all the legal, constitutional and democratic weapons at our disposal.”

“Since destabilisation of Lagos means destabilisation of the whole country because of the composition of the state that has every member of every clan in the country, resisting any attempt at destabilising such a state will not be out of place,” it stated.
