LAGOS — CHRISTIAN clerics including the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, former CAN vice president, Bishop Mike Okonkwo and PFN Secretary General, Pastor Wale Adefarasin have again threatened to lead the nation’s Christians to protest any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking in separate interviews at the just concluded Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, 11th biennial conference in Abuja, the Pentecostal preachers assured that they would not hesitate to mobilise people against any manipulated results.

First to speak was the CAN president, who said: “We will not accept it. We must learn how to do things properly in Nigeria. By the grace of God, we will no longer accept rigging in this country”  He  called on those who registered to turn our en masse to vote for credible leaders who would take the nation to higher grounds.

On the just concluded voters’ registration exercise, Oritsejafor congratulated Nigerians for turning out in their large numbers for the exercise, saying “that was good. Now that you have registered, we must also understand that the registration card means nothing if you don’t use it.

Bishop Okonkwo also urged Christians in the country to vote with understanding, saying: “We want people who can deliver the dividends of elections and not people who make promises. There are people who are today running who made promises in the past but did not deliver. So, we should not be carried away by sentiments.”

Also responding, the PFN scribe, Pastor Adefarasin advised Christians not be swayed by pecuniary inducements to vote bad leaders who would not do the nation any good.
