Following the lingering crises between two factions of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, the MKO Abiola Resurgence Group, one of the political groups in the state, has urged the national headquarters of PDP to respect due process and allow the Rule of Law takes its due cause.
Speaking with Vanguard in Abeoukuta, yesterday, National Coordinator of the group, Barrister Femi Oniyide, argued that the political situation in Ogun State had risen to an embarrassing level and it was important at the time for genuine stakeholders to rally round and save the state from disintegration.
According to him, the group had been watching closely the ongoing feud between the Otunba Gbenga Daniel faction of the party and former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s group, and had decided to finally “speak up and take sides with the faction that is legally and morally just.”
He noted that if there were two parallel primary elections in the state, identifying the authentic group should not be a difficult thing to do as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC-supervised primaries should simply carry the day.
The group said: “But we have thrown ourselves into a peculiar situation in this country where issues that are not democratically tenable anywhere in the world would happen here and nobody would come out to speak against it.”
This, according to him, “is the reason the MKO Abiola Resurgence Group have decided to come out and speak on the side of truth and justice as genuine stakeholders in Ogun State.”
