Following the attempted resignation of the newly appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Ziakede  Akpobolokemi, there are indications that the Minister of Transport will this week sack the three Executive Directors of the agency.

Vanguard investigation revealed that the Minister of Transport had received approval from the Presidency to sacked the three Directors, who were left behind from the last management led by the embattled Temisan Omatseye.

A source close to the apex regulatory agency’s management, who spoke with Vanguard noted that it is true that there was actually a problem between the new NIMASA boss and the EDs, who were expecting that one of them would be appointed the new helmsman of the agency.

The source pointed out that the Minister’s visit to Lagos, weekend, was really to sort out the problem between both parties which was not successful.

Although the Spokesman of the agency, Genga Ogunsakin told Vanguard that the Minister’s visit in company of the new Chairman of the agency, Adamu Muazu was to introduce the Chairman to the management, according to the source, “why is it that the ministry came to Lagos a day after the purported resignation of Akpobolokemi,.”

The source explained that one of the ED who considers the new agency boss as a “small boy” who he should not be taking orders from and therefore go out of his way to make thing difficult you him.

The source further explained that the said ED had been pushing documents to the new DG for his signature which the NIMASA helmsman has refused to sign. According to the source, he (the ED) has been pushing documents to him to sign and the DG has refused to sign not just their document be any other one for that matter.”

Another source said the anger of the EDs is not unrelated to the fact that the new helmsman brought two Directors, one from his own state of Bayelsa and the other from Arik Air as Special Assistants.

The source pointed out that they (EDs) are also angry that he came along with his kinsmen, which according to the source is not something new. The source who confirmed the earlier claimed that the EDs are pushing documents to the DG in a bid to implicate him, noted that they are not being fair because most of the documents could have been signed when one of them was acting DG.
