Youths in Anambra Central senatorial zone, under the aegis of Anambra Central Youth Forum, ACYF, have called on a woman politician at Ifite dunu, Mrs Christy Okoye, to apologise publicly to another female politician in the area and a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who bears the same name for allegedly deceiving the public that the senatorial aspirant had decamped to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

The senatorial aspirant had complained that since some national newspapers carried the report, her associates had been wanting to know if the report was true, adding that there was never a time she contemplated joining APGA.

Yesterday, the youth body in a statement read out to newsmen in Awka, warned politicians against deliberately fooling members of the public, noting that the action of Mrs. Okoye had caused some anxiety in the area.

According to the chairman of the youth group, Mr. Tony Chudebelu and secretary, Dr. Cletus Amadike, only an apology by Mrs Okoye will douse the tension the matter had generated in the area.

The group said the senatorial aspirant was the most popular politician in their area, adding that they would not watch while her image was being dragged to the mud.

It stated that report that she had dumped her party and ambition were total falsehood and was suspected to have been played up for selfish political gains by some unnamed people.

Chidebelu, who said the Forum was not out to support any group, stated that its mission was to ensure that a level playing ground was created for all so as to encourage emergence of informed and quality representatives.

Okoye in her reaction said she had no reason to quit PDP.

“I have received no fewer than 200 calls from friends and professional colleagues from all parts of the wold who wanted to know what happened,” she said.

She insisted that she remained a loyal and committed PDP member and would work with whoever emerged the candidate if she lost out, to ensure that no other party snatched the seat from PDP.
