DELSU: SSANU threatens to embark on strike

DELTA State University (DELSU), Abraka branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) may go on strike next Monday, if its demands are not met.

The strike is in protest against the non-payment of the Consolidated University Senior Staff Salary Structure (CONUSS) to teachers of DELSU Staff Secondary School.

Rising from its congress Friday, the group in a one-page notice  to the university’s Vice Chancellor insisted that the DELSU secondary school teachers were bonafide staff of the university and also its members, adding that; “as such , are entitled to the new salary.”

The notice which was jointly signed by the branch chairman and secretary, Comrades S. O. Erubrenyo and M. E. Izu respectively, SSANU regretted that despite previous efforts made by it to reverse the injustice, including a three-day warning strike embarked upon by its members on December 17, 2010, the teachers were yet to be paid the new salary.
