In an effort to strengthen the police readiness in tackling bomb explosions during the 2011 general elections, the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, has approved the training of over 350 policemen attached to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EODU), on ‘Bomb Scene Investigation and Management.
The officers are expected to receive an intensive three weeks training from seasoned bomb experts from Blue Sea Investment, a renowned international consultant based in South Africa.
They would train them on how to face the challenges over the latest trend in terrorism involving the use of improvised explosive device.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, ‘B” Department, Friday Eboka said the officers will also get training on demolishing vehicles stuffed with explosives. According to him, Thursday February 17 and February 18, will experience huge demolition of unserviceable vehicles along Lagos Ibadan Expressway by Shagamu interchange.
The demolitions is designed to promote the professionalism and upgrade the officers knowledge to international standard.
He appealed to members of the public, especially those residing or doing business around the area, not to panic on the hearing of large sound, heavy bangs, blast, or shocking waves, as they were not meant to hurt anyone.
