Minna — Fifteen people were arrested across Niger State for different electoral offences committed during the just concluded voters’ registration exercise.

Four of them were, however, released shortly after preliminary investigations by the police while the other 11 have various cases to answer in court.

Addressing journalists in Minna, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Zuokumor, said the four arrested in Minna, the state capital and later released were linked to four of the DDC machines initially reported to be missing.

He said in Bida, another four suspects were arrested in connection with another missing DDC machine and have been charged to court immediately after the preliminary investigation.

The commissioner also disclosed that one middle aged man was also arrested in Paiko town for impersonation as a youth corp member while attempting to cause confusion at one of the registration centres.

He said two peoples, one from Nasarawa ward in Minna was caught with three different voters registration cards while the other was arrested in the GRA also in Minna involved in multiple registration.

Zuokumor said two other men were arrested in Enagi town in Edati local government area for assaulting the registration officer.

According to him, the arrested man stormed one of the registration Centres after closing hour and forced the officer incharge to back for his own registration which was refused and this led to the assault.

The commissioner said the command did its best during the registration exercise to see to its success and assured that it will also provide adequate security during the general elections.
