Ivorien Presidential Saga: A recharged 1884 Berlin Conference on Africa

Dear Sir,A careful watch of the drama resulting from the recent presidential election in Cote d’Ívore(Ivory Coast), a sovereign country in West Africa raises more questions than answers.

The strange political concert being authored and forced on the ECOWAS countries by powerful international fora., including the United Nations Organistion, UNO is apperently a rehearsal of the conspiracies of the Berlin Conference of 1884 on the African Continent.

The ripples of the result of that conference is still negatively felt in the so- called independent African nations after fifty years of their respective freedom.

In view of the avalanche of threats by the European Union nations, EU, West African economic countries and the African Union, AU, one is compelled to enquire to know what international laws empower the international peace keepers and election monitors to brazenly ignore the constitutional laws and the Supreme Court of a sovereign nation regarding a democratically and lawfully elected head of that nation, duly verified and reconfirmed by it’s Supreme Court.

There is no justification for the so- called international peace keepers and election monitors backed by the afore-mentioned international organisations including ECOWAS, to elect or appoint a parallel president of Cote d’ Ívore  in a hotel where he is being quartered with the maximum security by the UNO armed forces. It is equally ridiculous to hear the externally appointed president of that country issuing threats of forcing out the constitutionally elected president of that country by what he vainly calls “legitimate force”. Where are the legitimate force or forces from?

Despite the apparent over- ambitious quest for unlimited political power, greed and corruption by African political elites this international brigandry of a siege on the people of Cote d’Ivore is a strange global phenomenon that must not be allowed by the neutral nations of the world. Is there no more the non-aligned forum? African nations will ever live to regret it.

In particular, the ECOWAS and African Union nations should oppose any external-forceful removal of the constitutionally elected president of Cote d’Ivore but to seek a quick and peaceful solution.

To this end, they should accept the open invitation by the lawfully elected president for the impartial international forum to re verify all the controversial presidential election papers, voters lists and to recount the valid votes in order to arrive at the truth of the matter. In a situation of conflicts by force of arms, it is the entire Ivorians who will suffer.
