DELTA State High Court sitting in Oleh, has restrained 17 councillors, including the leader of the Isoko South legislative Arm from impeaching chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Area, Chief Askia Ogieh for allegedly flouting the financial regulations of the council.

Ogieh had approached the court, following his alleged suspension from office by 17 out of 20 councillors last week. The order which was granted by Justice F. Oho after the council chairman had “undertaken to pay the sum of N500,000 as damages if court found out that in the end that it ought not to have made this order in the first place.”

Askia had  approached the court, prayed for “an order  restraining the 1st – 17th defendants (councillors) themselves, privies, or anybody whatsoever acting on their behalf from removing and/or impeaching the claimant/applicant from office as Chairman of Isoko South  council of Delta State pending the hearing and determination of the suit.”

Meanwhile, Chief  Ogieh, yesterday, said it was unlawful for the councilors to suspend him, arguing that it was the place of the councilors to recommend to the State House of Assembly.
