THE leadership of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, has expressed dissatisfaction over the myriads of drawbacks that had accompanied the on-going voters’ registration exercise in the country.

The party noted that the reports from ANPP states across the country were not encouraging but however, commended the National Assembly for the motion put in place to ensure that the exercise was extended to enable full participation of all eligible voters.

Speaking Thursday after registering at Ward I, Uburu, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state, the National Chairman of the ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu stressed the need for all Nigerians within the ages of 18 and above to be given the maximum opportunity to register in the on-going voters registration exercise.

He called on Nigerians to come out and register no matter the difficulties it may entail, adding that the exercise clearly gives eligible voters the opportunity to change a government they do not want.

According to Onu, Nigeria has attained both economic and political heights to be able to conduct free, fair and credible elections world wide.

He said: “Oh yes I have already called on extension because the reports we got from our states is not very encouraging. We are also happy that the National Assembly is taking all the necessary steps to make sure that the obstacles that the law may pose are removed.

“I would like to use this opportunity to call on all Nigerians to come out and register no matter the difficulties, they should over look all that, because what we can gain by all Nigerians registering is lot. If you don’t register you cannot vote and by registering you can change a government that you don’t like. The most important thing is that with the voters register any Nigerian can now select who such a Nigeria feels will be the best person to serve our nation.

“I think we have come of age; 50 years of political independence is enough time for us to conduct elections that are not just free and fair but credible, accepted world wide. But I feel very unhappy that just little thing we can do well we are not doing them well in the country”, he added.

Onu appealed to Nigerians to give the party an opportunity in this year’s election to serve the country at all levels, adding that the party has developed the capacity of conducting free, fair and credible elections.
