Suspected Boko Haram members kill soldier in Maiduguri

FOUR armed Boko Haram militants, riding on two bikes, Sunday night ambushed a team of soldiers on a patrol in Biu town of Borno State, shot dead an officer and wounded three others.

This attack brings to two, the number of soldiers killed by militants within 12 hours, as another one suffered similar fate, Monday morning along Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Maiduguri metropolis

Spokesman of the 21 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Maiduguri , Lt. Abubakar Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident in a phone interview with our correspondent, yesterday, said the assailants, armed with AK47 rifles, took the patrol team unaware.

“Our men were on routine patrol in the town at about 10.00pm when the gunmen laid an ambush on them and suddenly fired several shots at the soldiers. During the attack, three officers were wounded, while another one died on the way to the hospital due to excessive bleeding,” Lt. Abdullahi said.

The army spokesman  explained that nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

He stated that the security operatives were stationed at strategic locations and have now barricaded the major roads leading to the area, conducting stop and search operation on motorists and pedestrians.
