ABUJA—President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday asked the Senate to approve a new law which will enable him increase the numbers of justices of the Court of Appeal from 70 to 90.

President Jonathan has also proposed the amendment to the National Minimum Wage Act by the National Assembly to cover the new national wage increment for federal civil service.

The letter urging the Senate to amend the Court of Appeal Act of 2005, read:   “I forward, herewith, for your kind consideration and passage into law, the attached draft for an act to amend the Court of Appeal Act 2005 to increase the number of Justices of the Court of Appeal from 70 to 90 and for related matters.”

The president also in the letter to the Senate, read by David Mark, urged the Senate to expedite action on the bill which seeks to amend the 2004 National Minimum Wage Act.

The letter read: “I forward, herewith, for your kind consideration and passage into law the attached draft bill for an Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act cap 61, LFN, 2004.

“It is my hope that the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will consider and pass the amendment bill in your usual expeditious manner.”
